A Dermatologic Diary: Portrait of a Practice (Cutis. 1991;48:277-282)
Shelley WB, Shelley ED

The authors detail their findings in August 1991. They describe lectures they attended at the "Hot Spots in Hawaii" dermatology meeting, including difficult diagnoses in pediatric dermatology, graft-versus-host reactions, patients with diseases you haven't considered, and more.

A poignant anecdote from the authors in this month's Portrait of a Practice: "The only thing more stultifying to a clinician's mind than a diagnosis is a specific treatment. We tend to limit our thoughts to 'what is it' and 'what to do,' instead of 'why is it.' Look behind the diagnosis and look to a drug for those reasons why. Curiosity cures more cats than it kills."
