In their July 1993 entries the Shelleys discussed skin diseases in clusters including 7 patients with vasculitis. They also promoted equal coverage of good side effects of drugs in the Physicians' Desk Reference. They described how almost any topical agent can be made more effective by using the SSS rule: soak, salve, Saran. They also provided helpful remedies from Vitaminology in Dermatology. The Shelleys also compared looking at skin disease to flying over New York City, with a diagnostic biopsy being similar to seeing only a garage instead of the Empire State Building in New York; they advised, "If we do biopsy, we always look for an 'Empire State lesion.'"
