In the August 1994 journal entries, the Shelleys share several tips they learned at the summer meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology, including a session on therapeutics. Some take-away points from the Shelleys included patients with atopic eczema should avoid products with propylene glycol, including topical steroids; lichen simplex chronicus is frequently aggravated by contact allergy; and more. W.B. Shelley outlines ways for dermatologists to preserve their passion for the specialty: "Maintain a curiosity about each patient's problem, read with a focus on that challenging patient of the day, go to meetings for new thoughts and therapies, and don't practice decerebrate dermatology. Think, think, think."
