In their November 1993 entries, the Shelleys wrote about the overwhelming cases they saw at the Michigan Dermatological Society Meeting including a case of Proteus syndrome in a 6-year-old black boy born with an enlarged left foot as well as a 63-year-old man with a unique condition they referred to as pedunculated proliferative papillomatosis. The Shelleys reviewed cases of gingivitis, steroid acne, Ofuji disease, bullous pemphigoid, and elephantiasis nostras verrucosa from Medical and Surgical Dermatology: A Critical Guide to the World Literature. The Shelleys also commented on the pressing issue of raising medical care costs, which is still an ongoing concern for dermatologists today.
